ComFree was founded in Edmonton in 2002 by Erin & Travis Holowach with a simple mission: help homeowners sell their properties without paying traditional real estate commissions. Their vision proved successful – within just 3 years, ComFree became the largest for-sale-by-owner company in the world.
The founders believed that selling your home should be simple and straightforward. They showed homeowners they could successfully handle their own transactions while buyers discovered how easy it was to deal directly with sellers. By 2007, ComFree dominated the market with 1 in 3 homes listed on their platform, and customers were thrilled with the money they saved.
In 2009, ComFree expanded nationally and brought in new investors. However, this led to changes in direction that caused the founders to step away. The company changed hands several times over the following years, moving away from its original customer-focused approach.
In 2023, Travis and Erin regained control of ComFree and immediately returned to their founding principles. Today’s ComFree combines the original personalized service with an important new advantage: full MLS® and REALTOR.ca exposure through a regulatory change that allows homeowners to list directly on these platforms.
ComFree now offers everything you need to sell your home – professional signage, MLS® listing, legal support, and step-by-step guidance – all for a flat fee of $997+ GST.
